Carlton Centre

You can go up to the top of Carlton Centre, in Johannesburg. And see the whole city. I paid R10. There are benches, fixed binoculars, and a restaurant. 

   

The road I lived on, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Cars would speed down this road. Lower down, trees line either side of this road, and often they would meet cars at speed. These trees are old and their roots reach out, bulging the road surface. 

Introduction

My name is Wim. I am interested in a few things. Formal linguistics, syntax - particularly in the minimalist style (Chomsky 1993, et sec.); I am also interested in formal semantics, and the intersection of syntax and semantics (e.g. Heim & Kratzer, 1998). Other interests include political economy, and political science, more broadly - modern democracy and other modern institutions. I play capoeira. I like mountain biking. I take the bus in the mornings. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. This blog is a diary.
